Communications and Operations Intern Sought

Funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and Managed by the DAAD, the German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH) New York facilitates transatlantic collaboration to solve the most pressing questions of the future. The DWIH New York seeks a communications and operations intern from July-December 2020. This position requires a commitment of 38.5 hours per week. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this internship may begin digitally. When our offices reopen, the intern will be expected to be onsite in New York.

Compensation for this internship is $750 per month and the reimbursement of monthly MetroCard fare.  Students already based in the U.S. are preferred. The DWIH New York cannot help sponsor a visa.

Job Responsibilities:

The  intern will be responsible for:

  • Science Writing and Research:
    • Researching and preparing editorial content for the DWIH’s website, monthly newsletter and social media
    • Posting content relevant to German science and technology on the DWIH Twitter and Linked-in
    • Enacting press and marketing strategies together with the DWIH Communications Officer
    • Collaborating with partner organizations and media contacts to market Germany as a “Land of Ideas” in the U.S.
    • Generating hype for a major conference on the topics of “Cities and Climate”
  • Assistance with office administration, including DWIH programs and regular (digital) events

The applicant should be prepared to find content related to research and innovation for the DWIH website, social media, and event marketing. The intern will aid in maintaining the DWIH’s social media profile (via Twitter and Linked-In) and be actively involved in the maintenance of the new DWIH website. This primarily involves processing researched content, photo editing, as well as content uploads and editing and conducting performance analytics. Furthermore, the intern will support the organization of digital events.

Applicants must meet these minimum qualifications:

  • Completion of at least 3 years of undergraduate study
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both German and English
  • Self-motivated, organized, and proficient at working with deadlines
  • Strong computer skills, including extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; preference will be given to candidates also familiar with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop
  • Experience with social media

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in an office, program coordination and event management as well as in the field of journalism highly desirable. Familiarity with the field of international education, research, and/or commerce strongly preferred. Basic knowledge of WordPress or other website platforms preferred.
