Film Screening: Werner Herzog's Theater of Thought

The Neurorights Foundation has teamed with director Werner Herzog to create an extraordinary documentary film about the human brain – join DWIH New York for a special screening in New York!
The Neurorights Foundation is an organization that seeks to promote ethical innovation, engages multilateral organizations, regional organizations, national governments, companies, entrepreneurs, investors, scientists, and the public at large to promote innovation and raise awareness about the human rights implications of neurotechnologies.
Before the film, Rafael Yuste, Professor of Biological Sciences at Columbia University and Chief Scientific Advisor of Theater of Thought, will give an introduction. After the screening, there will be a Q&A with Stephen Damianos, Executive Director of the Neurorights Foundation and an affiliate of the Neurotechnology Center at Columbia University.

Rafael Yuste, M.D., Ph.D, is a neuroscientist at Columbia University, where he is Professor of Biological Sciences and Director of the Neurotechnology Center. Yuste and his laboratory pioneered the development of many imaging techniques in neuroscience. He led the researchers who proposed the US BRAIN Initiative and the International BRAIN Initiative. He also led the “Morningside” consortium who proposed novel human rights (“Neurorights”) to protect brain activity and brain data. He obtained awards from the Mayor of NYC, the Society for Neuroscience, the Director of the NIH and the Tällberg/Eliasson Global Leadership Prize. Stephen Damianos is the Executive Director of the Neurorights Foundation and an affiliate of the Neurotechnology Center at Columbia University. He led the development and writing of Safeguarding Brain Data: Assessing the Privacy Practices of Consumer Neurotechnology Companies, a landmark report that provided the first ever analysis of data practices and user rights in the consumer neurotechnology space. He additionally advises the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime on the intersection of neurotechnology and criminal justice. Stephen holds a PhD (DPhil) in International Development from the University of Oxford and an MPhil in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge.
