MCML Delegation Visit: Reception and Networking
We are pleased to invite you to an exclusive Reception with Networking at the German House. Leading researchers from the Munich Center for Machine Learning (MCML) – combining two of Germany’s leading universities, LMU Munich and Technical University of Munich – will showcase and discuss research in Generative and Medical AI.
The event will take place on May 19, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the German House (871 United Nations Plaza New York, NY 10017).
The evening will feature a welcome note by the Consul General, followed by two keynotes:
- Prof. Björn Ommer – talking about what it means to teach computers to “see”
- Prof. Daniel Rückert – discussing AI and the Future of Medicine
The Munich Center for Machine Learning (MCML) is a joint research initiative of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and Technische Universität München (TUM). As part of the German and Bavarian governments’ AI strategy, it is one of six nationally and permanently funded AI Competence Centers in Germany.
This event is part of a delegation visit of MCML researchers. It is supported by DWIH New York, the German Consulate in New York and the American Council on Germany, who play vital roles in fostering academic and scientific exchange between Germany and the United States.
We look forward to your participation!
Please register by May 13.

Björn Ommer is a full professor at LMU Munich, where he leads the Computer Vision & Learning Group. His Research Interest includes all aspects of semantic image and video understanding based on (deep) machine learning. Björn delivered the opening keynote at NeurIPS’23, was awarded the German AI-Prize 2024, the Technology-Prize of Eduard-Rhein-Foundation 2024, and the work leading to Stable Diffusion has been nominated for the German Future Prize of the President of Germany.Prof. Dr. Björn Ommer Head of Computer Vision & Learning Group, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich

Daniel Rückert is Alexander von Humboldt Professor for AI in Medicine and Healthcare at Technical University of Munich (TUM). In 2025, he was awarded Germany’s most prestigious research prize, the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize, for his pioneering work in AI-assisted medical imaging. With his collaborators, he developed an AI model that pinpoints stroke timing from CT scans — marking a breakthrough in medical AI.Prof. Dr. Daniel Rückert, Alexander von Humboldt Professor for AI in Medicine and Healthcare at the Technical University of Munich
