What:
The coronarchive was founded through an initiative of the Universities of Bochum, Hamburg and Giessen in March 2020. It aims to collect, archive, contextualize and exhibit personal memories and memorabilia from the time of the coronavirus pandemic. As history tends to be told unequally, in a top-down manner, the coronarchive ensures that diverse voices in our global societies are archived at the earliest stage possible. Contributions range from texts from journals, letters or even shopping lists to photographs, drawings, videos, chats, voice messages or songs. The coronarchive is a freely accessible, open online portal that welcomes anyone’s contribution and can include anything that can be made available in a digital format.

Why:
Social distancing, contagion, lockdowns: the novel coronavirus has fundamentally changed the way we live, work and interact. While the pandemic is already considered to be of a historic scale, it will also be over one day. How will the “corona crisis” be remembered one day and how can we make sure that our diverse experiences and voices are included in future discussions on COVID-19?

Participate:
Tune in to our conversation to learn more about the creation and purposes of the archive, as well as how to get involved. Already have a stack of photographs and other digital items ready to share? Go to the website and upload your items to the archive.
