Integrating the SDGs into Higher Education Curricula and Research
The Education Outreach Section from the UN Department of Global Communications and the German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH) New York invited higher education professionals and university alliance leaders to an informal lunch session on the efforts of the UN to support the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into university curricula and research.

During the session, Maher Nasser, Jayashri Sarah Wyatt, and Omar Hernández, outlined the current efforts of the UN´s Education Outreach Section which intends to foster dialogue with global constituencies such as civil society, the entertainment industry, media, academia, educators, students, and libraries to accelerate the implementation of SDGs across sectors.
Participants during the discussion and network section of the event shared their own insights from their respective higher education institutions and explore opportunities to deepen linkages with the UN system.

Jayashri Wyatt is the Chief of Education Outreach, the new home of UNAI in the Outreach Division, Department of Global Communication. Jayashri is a seasoned communications professional with a wealth of experience in the United Nations System producing high-level events, advocacy campaigns, and films for the Department of Global Communications, UNICEF, and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). In addition to her work with the United Nations, Jayashri also worked in the theatre community in New York as the lead producer of the multimedia series The Blueprint for Accountability, working with scholars, journalists, and actors to promote human rights and social justice. She produced the feature length documentary film: “Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America.” Jayashri also has nearly a decade of experience as an educator championing diversity education training. She holds a degree in Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto and a master's degree in Women's Studies from the University of Guelph, Canada.Jayashri Wyatt, Chief of Education Outreach, UN Academic Impact (UNAI)
Omar Hernández is the Program Manager of the UN Academic Impact (UNAI) initiative at the UN Department of Global Communications, and also works at the Secretariat of the UN Committee on Information. He served as a Volunteer and Conference Management Specialist at the UN Climate Change Secretariat (UNFCCC) and as a Consultant on Model UN for the Education for Justice initiative of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Moreover, Omar volunteered at the Liaison Office of the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and with the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA). In addition, he worked in a Venezuelan newspaper as an International News Analyst and Editor and as a Temporary Correspondent at the UN in Geneva. Also in Venezuela, Omar, a member of the Academic Council on the UN System (ACUNS), was a Lecturer in International Journalism and International Law at the Andrés Bello Catholic University, while researching on multilateral affairs. He has a Master’s degree in Cooperation for Development with a Specialization in International Humanitarian Aid from Jaume I University in Spain, a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Freedom of Expression and Right to Information from Andrés Bello Catholic University in Venezuela, and a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from the Central University of Venezuela, graduated as First of the Class.Omar Hernández, Program Manager, UN Academic Impact (UNAI)
