German U15

German U15 represents 15 leading research-oriented universities. Our universities are among the most distinguished and internationally visible institutions in the German academic system. Almost one third of all university students, one third of all professors and around one third of all international students at universities in Germany study and work at the German U15 universities.

 

The U15 universities are dedicated to outstanding research and excellent teaching. They are strong advocators of academic freedom in Germany and around the world. They play an important role for Germany as a location of science and innovation. The U15 universities are internationally known and attractive to scientists from around the world – not only due to their academic heritage that reaches back to the 14th century but also thanks to the their top positions in the German scientific landscape. Between 2014 and 2016 43% of all third-party funding awarded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and 49% of all Germany Grants from the European Research Councils were presented to projects and researchers from our member universities. The U15 universities belong to the strongest university medicine centers in Germany.
