Governments make difficult decisions every day, but on which basis are these decisions made? Where do you build roads if you don’t know where people live? Or determine how many teachers to employ if you don’t know the number of children nearby?

Understanding the People
Polyteia is a Berlin-based data analytics and visualization platform that allows city leaders to bring together and analyze the data that represents the constituents they serve. Founded in 2017 by Faruk Tuncer and Taisia Antonova (pictured above), Polyteia enables municipalities to optimize operations and make more effective decisions in core fields of action like childcare, education, mobility and more.

Polyteia uses a modular topic-specific system to let local governments choose which pieces of its smart governance platform they need. They collect data and glean insights on all aspects of a municipality from fire departments to housing projects, roads to daycares.

Data in Action
The town of Oranienburg, Germany used Polyteia’s services to figure out childcare needs while the city of Wriezen used their services to track and analyze financial and operational data. Aware of the sensitive nature of the data it handles, Polyteia’s platform receives only anonymized, aggregated data from its clients, complying with European privacy laws and negating any potential risk.

Having started with municipal governments, in recent months Polyteia has also secured first contracts with state governments for customized data-driven solutions.

In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, Polyteia has additionally begun offering data services related to the pandemic including personnel management, outbreak development and the effectiveness of protective measures.
