To do this, smart assistants require vast amounts of data. ‘Knowledge graphs’ are one of the preferred mechanisms for representing data here, because they can be understood by both humans and machines and ensure that information is processed logically.

News from the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI)HPI and MIT Collaborate Through New Joint Research Program “Designing for Sustainability”
On November 2, Hasso-Plattner-Institute and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) signed a collaboration in New York City that aims to tackle global societal challenges as expressed in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program will drive joint scientific research at both institutes in the areas of sustainable design, innovation, computer science and digital technologies, as well as in the translation of research results into practice.

Valentin Döring (22) and Jacob Schäfer (20) are bachelor students of the IT Systems Engineering program at the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) and Fulbright Scholars. From August 26 to September 17, 2022, they participated in the three-week Fulbright summer study program “Leaders in Entrepreneurship” at the renowned Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Anyone who uses digital contracts – also called smart contracts – should be careful about hacker attacks. Prof. Dr. Lucas Davi from University of Duisburg-Essen’s Institute of Software Technology paluno is developing a solution to find and fix security gaps in the contracts during programming and later in use. For this, he received a starting grant of 1.5 million euros from the European Research Council (ERCA).
