FELLOWSHIPS AT THE KÄTE HAMBURGER CENTRE FOR APOCALYPTIC AND POST-APOCALYPTIC STUDIES (CAPAS) 2024-25

Call for Fellowship Applications: CAPAS 2024-25, Deadline: Aug 31, 2023 – The Käte Hamburger Centre for #Apocalyptic and Post-Apocalyptic Studies (CAPAS) is a Centre for Advanced Studies at Universität Heidelberg (Germany). It gathers international scholars and scientists to research collaboratively on ideas and experiences of the doom of worlds.

The focus of the 2024-2025 academic year is on the imaginaries and concepts of the (post-)apocalypse as a specific figure of transformation , rupture, and speculative thought. The center invite fellowship applications for up to 6 months, from September 2024 to February 2025. Fellows must reside in Heidelberg during their fellowship appointment and are expected to participate in the transdisciplinary program at the center as well as to contribute to its publications and public outreach. English is the working language at CAPAS.

The Fellowships

Fellows will be provided with an office space and access to university resources for international scholars (library, canteen, daycare, etc.). CAPAS further provides support with the administrative formalities of the fellowship (visa application, registration, etc.). Fellows who take unpaid leave from their home institution during the fellowship will receive financial compensation in form of a stipend (approx. 3.500 to 8.000 EUR, calculated on an individual basis). Alternatively, CAPAS compensates the fellow’s home institution with the corresponding salary for a teaching replacement, in case the fellow decides to keep their current salary and contract benefits. Financial support is capped by the regulations of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a fellowship at CAPAS, the candidate must at least hold the rank of assistant professor or equivalent. Applicants from scientific/empirical fields with at least 5 years of post-doctoral experience are also eligible. Activists and artists who are open to transdisciplinary dialogue and have acquired substantial experience in academia are also welcome to put forward a proposal. CAPAS has a strong commitment to diversity and specifically encourages women* and BIPoC to apply.

Selection Process

The criteria for the selection process take into account the originality and relevance of the project proposal as well as the academic merits and other achievements of the applicant. The selection over 10 fellowships will be made by the Board of Directors and the Academic Advisory Board and is scheduled for the end of November 2023.
