News from the University of CologneProfessor Joybrato Mukherjee Becomes the New Rector of the University of Cologne
Professor Joybrato Mukherjee, President of Justus Liebig University Giessen, was elected by the members of the University Election Assembly to be the future Rector of the University of Cologne on 10 May 2023. Mukherjee will thus succeed Professor Axel Freimuth, who has held the office since 2005 and is no longer available for another term due to his age. The handover of office is planned in October 2023.

News from Campus OWLERC Consolidator Grant for Benjamin Gess at Bielefeld University for research on the impact of randomness on chaos
How can we use mathematics to capture and describe complex systems that seem to be driven by randomness? And how can we describe the fact that even the slightest fluctuations can lead to major changes in climate dynamics? Benjamin Gess at Bielefeld University focuses on mathematical structures that capture the interaction of random events and complex behavior. For his work he will receive two million Euros over a five-year period from the European Research Council Consolidator Grant.
